Sara Gonso Tait is a partner in the Public Affairs Group and is an active member in the firm’s Gaming, Sports Betting and Liquor Law practice. Her focus includes gaming and other regulated industries including crypto currency, cannabis, and alcohol. She previously served as Executive Director of the Indiana Gaming Commission. In that role, she was chief regulator of Indiana’s 13 casinos which generate billions of dollars in revenue and thousands of jobs. Sara was also responsible for regulating a significant charitable gaming industry, boxing and mixed martial arts, an illegal gambling police force, paid fantasy sports and sports wagering.

With her broad expertise in legislative, government, regulatory and tribal affairs, Sara brings a unique and valuable perspective. That includes a wide array of experience with complicated and complex mergers, acquisitions, and bankruptcies having overseen a multitude during her six-year tenure as Executive Director in a highly regulated and compliance-focused industry. Sara also successfully launched retail and mobile sports betting on an aggressive timeline and created a nationally praised and replicated regulatory environment. Additionally, she was appointed by Governor Eric Holcomb to lead negotiations for the first ever tribal-state compact for class III gaming and subsequently shepherded the executed compact through the Indiana General Assembly. Sara also implemented innovative technology requests and countless significant capital investment projects.

Sara is a highly accomplished, thoughtful and results-driven professional with a proven record of success in leading initiatives and streamlining existing operations.

Sara received her juris doctor from the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law. During law school, Sara was involved in the Order of the Barristers and was an Indiana University Foundation Scholar. She received her Bachelor of Arts in psychology, with honors, from Miami University where she was a scholarship athlete on the university’s diving team.
