Paul Newson is a Principal at Vanguard Overwatch and the founder of the gambling law and regulation conference Regulating the Game.

Paul was a former Deputy Secretary in the NSW Department of Industry responsible for liquor, gambling & racing public policy and regulation in NSW. Paul is a patron and former president of the International Association of Gaming Regulators. He has over 25 years of experience in strategic and operational leadership. His career has moved through compliance and enforcement, public policy and regulatory reform before transitioning into advisory practice.

Paul advocates for considered risk-taking, continuous improvement and innovation underpinned with ethical leadership to secure economic and social outcomes for a thriving sector.

Paul regularly speaks at Australian and international gambling and regulatory conferences and is a graduate of the Executive Development Program - Confronting Challenges and Embracing Opportunities — Strategic Leadership in the Gaming Industry (A joint program of the University of Nevada, Reno College of Business and Extended Studies and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas International Gaming Institute.

Paul holds a Bachelor of Arts (Politics), a Bachelor of Laws, a Master of Legal Studies, and a Master of Law & Management.
