June Presidents Message

My fellow IMGL members, it is hard to believe but we are now only three months from our autumn conference in Boston, Massachusetts.    This is the first opportunity for all of us to renew our bonds of friendship and to exchange ideas on where the world of gaming is going in the rest of 2021 and 2022.   The planning for Boston is ongoing and the panels and discussion groups will be dynamic and thought-provoking.

But Boston is not just an opportunity for our IMGL family to re-unite, it is also a joint conference with the International Association of Gaming Regulators.   Together IMGL and IAGR will have joint sessions and a joint reception on Wednesday, September 15.  Our organizations and our members will have five days to meet, exchange ideas and re-kindle friendships in the post-pandemic world.   I encourage you to register and attend the Boston conference.   Registration is live [Register Here] as is the hotel link [Boston Marriott Reservations]  or you can visit our website at IMGL.ORG.

As an IMGL member, please rest assured that IMGL is not a one-trick pony.   We just had a successful regional conference in Indianapolis on June 4.   Members from the Midwest had a lively discussion of legal ethics (and 2 hours of Ethics CLE) and then discussed updates from recently concluded and from ongoing legislative sessions.   On July 13 in Chicago, IMGL will continue our long-standing partnership with NCLGS to present our first in-person IMGL Masterclass since February 2020.   IMGL members will discuss the state of distributed gaming in the United States. The NCLGS conference runs two days, July 12-13, and the IMGL will also host a dinner for IMGL members on Monday night, July 12.  Register for NCLGS and receive a special IMGL member discount rate here:  NCLGS Summer Meeting

The IMGL Magazine continues to ramp up.   Our next edition will be out this month and will be chock full of new developments and articles from around the world.   A big thank you goes to Dr. Simon Planzer for spearheading our revised magazine.    Our goal is to make the IMGL Magazine the first stop for our members and for the industry to keep up on breaking developments and on deeper dives into the topics that are trending across the globe.   Please send your articles to Simon or to our Director of Publications, Phil Savage.

We have scheduled our future conferences through 2022 and are just now starting on the 2023 conferences.   Spring of 2022 will be in Seattle, Washington and in the Fall of 2022 we’ll head to London.  Many of you will be excited to know that we are planning a return to Napa Valley in the spring of 2023, stay tuned for details!!

If you ever have any questions or comments or suggestions please email me at [email protected] or our amazing Executive Director, Brien VanDyke at [email protected]  We are here to serve you as members of the IMGL.

I am excited that the IMGL has come through the pandemic stronger and more vibrant than we entered it.  We have a great second half of 2021 and an even better 2022.    Come join us in Boston in September and let’s raise a glass to the pre-eminent organization of gaming lawyers, the IMGL.
